Michigan Snow X Series - 2008 Racer Information Package

Welcome to the Michigan Snow X Racing Association:
We are pleased you have chosen to race with us this year and ensure you that the MSXRA will provide you with professional quality safe races in a rider friendly environment. Through our affiliation with the ISR (International Snowmobile Racing, Inc), the MSXRA promotes our Michigan Snow X Series under the guidelines and rules of the ISR to help assure safe and competitive events. You must be a MSXRA member to compete at any of our races. **For 2008 all series races will be 2 day events that will include 3 motos + a Main event for most all classes = More racing, more laps and track time!

Our Michigan Snow X Series has something for everyone from the 1st time Beginner rider to the seasoned Pro rider. The events are family oriented with equal attention for the Kids, Beginner, Sport, Semi-Pro & Pro drivers. 26 Classes at each race & awards to the top 5-10 in all classes.
MSXRA – Safety & Equipment Rules

Rider safety is our #1 concern at all times, you are required (for your own good) to wear the following safety gear at all times when on the track at any MSXRA event: Helmet – must be Snell 2000 approved / Full coverage with eye protection. New helmet rule The helmet must be predominantly blaze or international orange in color. More than 50% of the entire outer surface including the visor must be orange. Knee & shin pads (hockey style ok) leather boots with a minimum of 6” above the ankle of the boot and gloves are all mandatory!! ISR Approved upper body vest to protect your chest, spine and abdomen. Vest must also cover & protect your ribs and sides under your arms. (Motocross chest protectors are NOT legal for MSXRA snow X races.) At each event you & your machine will be inspected for safety before you may race or practice on the track. Rental of safety equipment will be available/limited amounts.(Upper body Vest & Knee/shin pads only.) No rental Helmets available!

Part of your MSXRA annual membership includes a current ISR Rule book, you are required to read and understand the rules that govern snow X racing. It’s your responsibility to know the rules!!
The MSXRA recommends that you read and understand the rules.

All snowmobiles 1989 or newer, stock or modified up to 600 cc 2/stroke and up to 1050cc 4/stroke are eligible to race in appropriate classes, it must meet the safety requirements including being equipped with a tether cord type kill switch and a working thumb kill switch mounted on the right side of handlebars also. Sleds must be equipped with a rigid extended rear snow flap that touches the ground when not sitting on the sled. The ski loops (tips) must be a minimum of 1” in diameter or width. SKI LOOPS MUST LOOP AROUND and attach under the ski tip (we suggest tips padded with 1"min. of padding) Headlights & taillights must be operational & covered with clear tape. Noise silencers are mandatory.

MSXRA Traction Rules - Limited Traction – ISR rule permits a maximum of 96 studs and backer plates in the center area between the side rails. No studs & backer plates are permitted under the side rails or on the outside of the track. Studs must be commercially available, trail type studs with a minimum 60% angled tip. Studs must be located no more than 1.25" inches directly behind a track lug & a minimum of 3.75" inches from the outside edge of the track. (No traction devices or carbides are allowed in the 120cc classes). Studs may NOT be more than 3/8” longer (taller) than the track lug located directly in front of the stud on the track. Carbides must be commercially available 60 % or 90% trail type with a host bar that has round or oval edges. Maximum carbide insert length is 10" inches. The minimum width for a carbide runner is 3/8"inch. Maximum height for carbide runner from bottom of the ski is 5/8" inch or a maximum of 1/8" higher than the width of the carbide runner.

2008 MSXRA Michigan Snow X Series Rules

For 2008 all series races will be 2 day events that will include 3 motos + a Main event for most all classes = More racing, more laps and track time!
Racers must wear a number bib or have your race # on your back at all times when on course, racing & practicing & have corresponding numbers displayed on the machine before it will be allowed to race.
Numbers must be 6-8" black on white backgrounds & placed on both sides of sled.
4 Stroke racing ratio info. A 1.75 ratio for 4/stroke snowmobiles Example:600cc x 1.75 = 1050cc 4/stroke
Yamaha Phazer class, 4-stroke model, Will run with the Beginner/Sport Fan class this season.
Warm up Stands will be provided in the hot pit area, Only 1 person allowed in staging with each driver.
No kids under 14 will be allowed in staging except during there own events staging.
No faxed in Memberships or Race Registrations will be accepted! (at race site not in the office to get!)
Must be a current MSXRA member to race in any MSXRA - Michigan Snow X Series race or practice.
Any member who allows another human to use their # will be disqualified / banned for the season.
Register to race in 2 or more classes and receive 1 free pit pass for that event! $15-$20 Value
Stock and aftermarket Skis & handlebars are allowed in MSXRA events, must be commercially available, No modified or homemade bars or skis allowed.
Most Classes (except FreeStyle 300, 380, Sport 500A & B, semi-pro 600 & Pro/Semi-Pro Super Stock 600 are STOCK Only classes), stock & improved machines compete together.
No movement between divisions. (example, Sport riders may NOT race semi-pro classes).
You must complete all races on the same sled as you start the race day with.
No grinding, blueprinting, machining, cutting or welding is allowed in the Stock classes.
Junior riders 17 & under must have a notarized birth certificate(13 & under only) written consent from parent or guardian and have said parent or guardian present to compete in any MSXRA event.
Junior advancement is at the discretion of MSXRA, junior racers must compete in at least 1 entire event in a junior class before becoming eligible for advancement. A written petition requesting advancement is required. (The junior must by at least 14 years of age to advance).
Participants are solely responsible for the condition of their sleds and the actions of themselves and crew/family members and may be disqualified for actions detrimental to the event or Org.
120B Four Stroke Stock class with 18 mph max. Engine must be OEM based using a Robins, Suzuki or Honda (4 hp) motor, Gear changes, adjustable main Jets, stock or Mod. Exhaust is allowed. Must use stock intake and clutch. All other ISR rules apply.
120A Four Stroke Champ Class. Engine must be OEM based using a Robins, Suzuki or Honda (4 hp) motor, Gear changes, adjustable main Jets, stock or Mod. Exhaust, final belt drive, CVT systems, are all allowed! (big bore kits (up 160cc) are Not allowed). All other ISR rules apply

Michigan Snow X Cup Points Series Information

The MSXRA points system is in effect for 25 classes. Your best 5 races will count for the series awards that are given to the top 3 drivers in each class. 1 Camoplast Ice Ripper High Points Champion will also be awarded in the Beginner, Sport, Semi-Pro & Pro divisions. 1 High point award given to the one Beginner, Sport, Semi-Pro & Pro riders with the highest total points (all races & classes go towards High points count). Points are awarded in each class in the following way, Points Breakdown: 1st=25, 2nd=22, 3rd=19, 4th=17, 5th=16, 6th=15, 7th=14, 8th=13, 9th=12, 10th=11 + PLUS 1 point per rider. MSXRA awards points to all riders in all 25 classes.

MSXRA - CLASSES - FEES - AWARDS

Beginner CLASSES
The Beginner division is designated for the first year racers only!. If you have any prior snowmobile snow X racing experience you will be required to compete in the Sport, Semi-Pro divisions. No current year - limited race build sleds in beginner classes.
There are 3 Beginner classes:
Beginner 500 / 0-500 cc Stock or Modified
Beginner 600/Open / 0-600 cc Stock or Modified
Beginner Women / 0-600 cc Stock or Modified

You must be a MSXRA member to race in any Michigan Snow X Series event.
Beginner Entry Fee = $ 45 per class pre-registered / $50 per class on race weekend
Beginner Classes: Awards to top 10 in all 3 classes, 10 rider in finals (Awards to all!)

SPORT CLASSES
The Sport division is designated for snowmobilers with racing experience. There are 6 Sport classes. Sport riders may NOT race the Semi-Pro Class / No movement between divisions.
All Sport & Specialty classes will run under the grouping of up to 600cc new & old generation sleds incl. 440s.
Beginner/Sport Open Fan + Yamaha Phazer / Stock or Modified, Fan cooled.
Sport 500 A / 0-500 cc Stock Advanced
Sport 500 B / 0-500 cc Stock
Sport 600/Open A / 0-600 cc Stock or modified Advanced
Sport 600/Open B / 0-600 cc Stock or modified
Sport Women / 0-600 cc Stock or modified

You must be a MSXRA member to race in any MSXRA event.
Sport Entry Fee = $ 45 per class pre-registered / $50 per class on race weekend
Sport Classes: Awards to top 10 in all 6 classes, 10 rider in finals (Awards to all!)

SPECIALTY MSXRA CLASSES

These 10 special classes are for Junior & Vet riders who wish to race with the MSXRA
~ Junior Specialty classes will run a 2 moto + a final format each race day!
~*Junior B 120 Stock Four Stroke 8-12 years old/max speed is 18 MPH No Studs. C- pg. 2
~*Junior A 120 Champ Four Stroke 8-12 years old/ no max speed No Studs. C- pg. 2
~*FreeStyle 300 8-10 Stock / Ski-Doo Freestyle Stock 300cc No Studs
~*Junior Novice 10-13 years old / 380 cc Fan only!
~*Junior Novice Girls 10-13 years old / up to 600 cc Fan only!
~*Junior Novice Boys 10-13 years old / up to 600 cc Fan only!
~Above 6 Specialty Classes will race Saturday and or Sunday Entry Fee = $ 35 per class pre / $40 per class on race weekend.

Separate awards and points per day.
*Juniors 14-15 / 0-600 cc Fan or 500 Liquid cooled
*Juniors 16-17 / 0-600 cc Fan or 500 Liquid cooled
* 30+ Open / 0-600 cc Stock or modified
* 40+ Masters / 0-600 cc Stock or modified

You must be a MSXRA member to race in any MSXRA event.
Specialty Class Entry Fee = $ 45 per class pre-registered / $50 per class on race weekend
Specialty Classes: Awards to top 10 in all 10 classes, 10 riders / finals (Awards to all!)
*Age determined by age as of Race Date - for all Specialty Classes*


** Kids 4-7years of age - 120/4stroke Race Info.
Kids 4-7 years old / 120/4 stroke 12 MPH max : Race usually during the 1st hour of racing.
Class will race Saturday and or Sunday with awards each day!
Engine must be OEM based using a Robins, Suzuki or Honda (4 hp) motor, Gear changes, adjustable main Jets allowed.
**Kids 4-7 Class will NOT receive points or year end awards.
Age determined by age as of Race Date - for all Specialty Classes
Kids 4-7 years of age Must be a MSXRA Junior member. (includes a 2 race entry pass).

SEMI-PRO & PRO CLASSES
The Semi-Pro division is designated for serious racers who are preparing to take on the Pros in the near future.
There are 5 Semi-Pro classes at MSXRA events &1 Pro/Semi Pro Super Stock Class at all events. Pro drivers may race only in the Pro Super Stock class! You must be a MSXRA member to race in any MSXRA event.
All Semi-Pro classes will run under the grouping of up to 600cc new & old generation sleds including 440s.

Pro/Semi Pro - Super Stock 600 / 0-600 Stock $1200 Purse top 5 – New 2008 6.8 to 1 sleds only (No 440s)

Semi-Pro Entry Fee =$ 80 per class pre-registered / $85 per class on race weekend
Pro/Semi Pro Super Stock 600 class Entry Fee = $120 per class pre or race weekend
Semi-Pro & Pro Prizes: $ 500.00, $1,000.00 or $1,200.00 purse for top 5-10 in all classes!!
